The Medicine Hat Police Service (MHPS) is flying its flags at half-mast to honour a police officer killed in the line of duty in Ontario on Tuesday.

MHPS released a statement on Wednesday.

“It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the line-of-duty death of Ontario Provincial Police Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, of the Dufferin County Detachment, while working with the James Bay Detachment.

On behalf of the Medicine Hat Police Service, we extend our deepest condolences to Constable Bali’s family, friends, and colleagues during this incredibly difficult time.

This loss is felt across the policing community, and we stand in solidarity with the OPP and all those impacted.

Incidents like this serve as a solemn reminder of the risks police officers face each and every day in service of their communities.

In honour of Constable Bali and the Ontario Provincial Police, flags will be flown at half-mast until sunset on the day of Constable Bali’s funeral.”
