The Medicine Hat Mavericks dropped their first of two games in Saskatoon on Tuesday night.

A sixth-inning home run from Carson Chan was the only offence the Mavs produced in a 6-1 loss to the Berries in Western Canadian Baseball League action.

Derek Archer started the contest for the Mavericks and gave up four runs through his five innings pitched.

Diego Quinonez started on the mound for the Berries, giving up one run, and was pulled with two outs in the sixth inning and the bases loaded. Dallen Rude would come in and get a flyout to end the inning.

No errors were reported in the contest, and the Berries outhit the Mavs 10-7.

The Berries remain in the league lead at 8-2 on the season, also occupying top spot in the East Division.

The Mavs sit at 5-6, good enough for fourth spot in the East Division and are 3.5 games back of the Berries.

Wednesday’s game in Saskatoon starts at 7 p.m.

The Mavs are in the middle of 11 games in 11 days, and return to Athletic Park to host the Energy City Cactus Rats on Thursday and Friday.
