The Medicine Hat Mavericks will start a four-game homestand at Athletic Park on Friday.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express will play three straight days against the Mavs before the Swift Current 57s are in the city on Monday.

Friday, Saturday, and Monday’s games start at 6:45 p.m., Sunday’s game begins at 2:05 p.m.

The Mavericks head into the weekend coming off two straight road wins over Regina and Swift Current.

A 6-1 win over the Red Sox in Regina on Thursday night was the fourth meeting of the season between the two teams, and the first game that went the Mavs way.

The game was low-scoring early on with the Red Sox getting their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Mavs struck back with runs in the top of the fifth and sixth to take a 2-1 lead. They expanded on that with four runs in the top of the ninth.

Brandt Spencer got the win on the mound for the Mavs, pitching five innings and giving up one run, while striking out seven batters. A strong outing on the mound in relief from the Mavs’ Jaxon Graham had him strike out five across two innings.

Hitting a home run in the contest for the Mavs was Frankie Giacalone. Carter Roth was productive at the plate for the Mavs, going 2-for-5 with a double and a pair of runs batted in.

Sitting with a 3-3 record, the Mavs are in second spot in the Western Canadian Baseball League‘s East Division, two games back of the 5-1 Saskatoon Berries.

The Miller Express are 2-3 to start the year, dropping a 7-4 decision to the Berries in Saskatoon on Thursday night.
