Medicine Hat Mavericks defeat Swift Current 57s in dominant fashion 24-2

The Medicine Hat Mavericks dominated the Swift Current 57s at Mitchell Field on Tuesday night.

A 24-2 win for the Mavericks improves the team record to 2-3 on the season.

The Mavs opened the scoring in the first inning, then opened things up in the top of the third with nine runs.

With the score at 10-0 Mavs, the 57s got their only two runs of the game in the bottom of the third.

The Mavs would continue to build the lead with three runs in the fourth, two runs in the fifth, three runs in the sixth, and six runs in the eighth.

Pitcher Derek Archer got the win on the mound for the Mavs in his second start of the season.

There were 25 Mavericks hits in the contest to the 57s four. Several Mavs hitters had three or more hits in the contest.

Blake Dale led the way with four hits, while Eric Calder, Josh Stark, Evan Morrison and Thomas Schnabel each had three. Dale and Stark also each had a home run. Medicine Hat’s Stark also led the Mavs with five runs batted in.

The Mavericks have a day off on Wednesday before facing the Red Sox in Regina on Thursday. A Red Sox squad that has given the Mavs each of their three losses on the season.

Friday is the start of three days of home games against the Moose Jaw Miller Express.

Then on Monday, the Mavs host the Swift Current 57s at Athletic Park to make up the game rescheduled from Monday this week.
