Medicine Hat City Council to hold public hearing on Land Use Bylaw refresh on Monday

Jun 1, 2026 | 1:29 PM

Land-use changes, economic development and housing incentives are among the topics before Medicine Hat city council during Monday’s meeting.

The City of Medicine Hat‘s annual report will be accepted for information early in the meeting.

Council will hold a public hearing on the final phase of its Land Use Bylaw refresh, a project aimed at making development rules easier to understand and apply.

The hearing will start with a presentation from the manager of planning, Robert Sissons, and the superintendent of planning, Shawn Champagne.

The city received three public submissions from individuals who each outlined positive feedback and some concerns with the bylaws.

Councillors will also consider bylaws that would establish a development and expansion grant program to help attract new commercial and industrial investment.

The agenda also includes support for backyard and secondary suites, Tourism Medicine Hat‘s annual report, and a review of regional food waste composting opportunities.

Council’s regular meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
