Brooks RCMP are urging motorist and cyclist to share the road safely after a collision

Brooks RCMP are reminding motorists and cyclists to share the road safely following a collision near Kinbrook Island Provincial Park earlier this week.

Police say officers responded to a 911 call around 7:40 p.m. on May 19 involving a collision between a vehicle and a cyclist on the highway exiting the provincial park.

Investigators determined two cyclists travelling eastbound attempted to make a left-hand turn when a vehicle travelling in the same direction tried to pass them.

RCMP say the driver was able to brake significantly before impact, helping reduce the severity of the collision.

One cyclist was knocked down to the ground and taken to the Brooks Health Centre with minor injuries.

Police are reminding cyclists to use proper hand signals, wear helmets and remain visible to traffic.

Mounties are also urging motorists to slow down, avoid distractions and give cyclists extra space when passing.
