Tigers motivated ahead of do-or-die Game 6: ‘Everybody needs to find their why’

May 3, 2026 | 10:48 AM

The Medicine Hat Tigers face postseason elimination for the first time since 2024 tonight in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Prince Albert Raiders.

The Raiders secured a 3-2 series lead Friday night with a 6-3 Game 5 victory over the Tabbies.

The Tigers trailed by three entering the third period and managed to claw within one, but failed to find the equalizer to force overtime.

“Our push came a little too late, we just gotta play that way the whole game”, said Tigers 20-year-old forward Ethan Neutens about his team’s third period play in Game 5.

With their season on the line, the mindset doesn’t change for the Tabbies ahead of Game 6.

“Our group doesn’t back down, we’re gonna keep pushing whether our head’s on the chopping block or not”, Neutens added.

It has been speculated and now confirmed by Tigers Head Coach and General Manager Willie Desjardins that the Tigers have been battling sickness over the course of this series.

“It’s out there we’ve been battling sickness through this series, but we’re starting to feel pretty good now’, said Desjardins.

“The character of this group is unbelievable. Lots of guys have played when they probably shouldn’t have played.”

Surviving until a Game 6 had been a quietly held goal for this Tigers group as they aimed to get healthy.

“I thought we gotta get to a Game 6, because if we can get to a Game 6 then we can start to get healthy again. The guys did an unbelievable job in two and three to get those games, they really fought hard for it and now that gives us a chance, and that’s all you can ask for”, he added.

Now, with their backs against the wall, Tigers captain Bryce Pickford is asking his team to find their “why” ahead of Game 6.

“I think everybody needs to find their why and who they’re gonna do it for. I don’t think it’s going to be very hard for everyone to give their all”, said Pickford.

“Our backs are against the wall right now, so I think that’s when teams play their best.”

Puck drop for Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals is set for 6:00 p.m. MST from inside Co-op Place as the Medicine Hat Tigers look to force a Game 7 Tuesday night in Prince Albert.

The pre-game show begins at 5:30 p.m. on WILD 94.5 FM.
