The Alberta Cup is a hockey tournament hosted by Hockey Alberta each year to help identify U15 players for the Team Alberta Program. The tournament includes 120 of the top players who played in their final year of eligibility at the U15 age group. These players are split into six regionally based teams.

The tournament is scouted by the Western Hockey League, with prospects eligible for the WHL Prospects Draft the year they compete in the Alberta Cup.

This year, 2011-born players competed in the event from April 23-26 in Red Deer.

The regionally based teams with players connected to the Medicine Hat area included the second-place Team Red and fifth-place Team Green.

Four players from the South Alberta Hockey Academy U15 Prep team competed in the tournament.

Forwards Nelson Sonna Soufo of Brooks and Carter Jarvis of Cypress County played for Team Green.

Team Red had Medicine Hat forward Macen Ibach and Calgary defenceman Mark Ma.

Through five games played, Sonna Soufo had three points with two goals and an assist, Jarvis had an assist, and Ibach and Ma were held pointless.

The South East Tigers U15 AAA team was also represented at the event by goaltender Hunter Munro on Team Red.

Munro had a 2-0 record in three games with a 3.71 GAA and .833 Save Percentage.

Next up for Hockey Alberta is the Prospects Cup from May 7-10 in Red Deer.

The tournament is a similar format to the Alberta Cup, but with eight regionally based teams, each with 20 players selected from the top second-year U13 players in each area.

Three 2013-born players from the South East Tigers U13 AAA team will play for Team South Black at the tournament.

Medicine Hat Goaltender Dawson Ressler, and from Brooks forwards Shawn Mrowill and Callaghan Tjeerdema.
