The National Day of Mourning will be observed on April 28, with a local ceremony planned in Medicine Hat to honour workers who have been injured, made ill or lost their lives on the job.

The Medicine Hat Regional Safety Committee, alongside the Alberta Construction Safety Association, will host a public ceremony at the Memorial Arboretum at the base of Scholten Hill beginning at 11 a.m.

The annual event is held to remember workers who have died, been injured or disabled, or suffered occupational diseases due to workplace incidents.

Residents are invited to attend and participate in the ceremony by placing flowers on the cenotaph and observing a moment of reflection in honour of those whose lives have been forever changed.
