Medicine Hat to host 100 days until 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games celebration

Apr 10, 2026 | 10:40 AM

With the 2026 Special Olympics Canada Summer Games only 100 days away on May 2, Medicine Hat is hosting a community celebration to commemorate the milestone at the Medicine Hat Stampede Grounds.

The event is a free, community welcome event featuring a concert band, athlete ambassadors, organizers, food, and mini-games starting at 2 p.m. to build excitement ahead of the national event, which will welcome athletes from across the country.

An on-stage program will wrap up around 3 p.m., but the event will continue with mini games and food until 5 p.m.

Opening ceremonies for the games are set for Aug. 11, with more than 1,700 participants from across the country competing in 10 sports during the games.

Games manager, Kara Brake, said excitement is building around the “We Shine Together” theme, with organizers encouraging people from Medicine Hat and beyond to attend the 100-day party, whether to volunteer, support Special Olympics, or take part in the celebration.

Karris George, athlete ambassador, said the celebration is expected to be a fun event, encouraging people to attend, meet participants and learn more about the Special Olympics Canada Summer Games.

Special Olympics athletes will have a dedicated section for the event kickoff and can notify the games staff on arrival for access.
