Medicine Hat College students host Snake of Generosity for the End Period Poverty campaign finale

Apr 8, 2026 | 2:05 PM

Sport and Event Marketing and Management students at Medicine Hat College are inviting the community to the grand finale of the End Period Poverty campaign on April 13 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the college.

The campaign is a local charity that brings awareness to period poverty, encouraging residents to donate menstrual products.

The finale is a class project, where students are attempting to build what they said could be the longest “Snake of Generosity” in local history by lining up donated menstrual items end-to-end along a red carpet.

The goal is to collect 3,500 boxes of tampons, pads, menstrual cups and wipes for people in the community who struggle to afford them.

The initiative is supported by partners including the Medicine Hat Skateboard Association, Root Cellar Food and Wellness Hub and the Redcliff Youth Centre, with local businesses serving as donation drop-off sites.

Student organizer Candia Sissons says period poverty is a dignity issue, and the snake highlights the reach of community support.

City Councillor Yusuf Mohammed, college representatives, performer Natalie Roberts and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers mascot are expected to attend, helping place donations and mark the campaign’s final tally.

Organizers say the event will also feature live music from performer Natalie Roberts, games, refreshments and a final measurement of the snake at 5 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring donations to the final event and take part in the effort to support access to essential menstrual products.
