WEATHER WARNING

Snowfall for Medicine Hat area impacting travel conditions on Thursday

Apr 2, 2026 | 7:23 AM

Environment Canada is warning of poor travel conditions across southern and central Alberta as snowfall intensifies Thursday morning.

Periods of heavy snow are expected to develop, impacting sections of Highway 2 and stretches of Highway 1 both west of Calgary and southeast toward Medicine Hat.

Reduced visibility and rapidly changing road conditions may be caused by the heavy snowfall, with conditions expected to improve later in the day.

Total snowfall amounts remain uncertain according to Environment Canada, with between five and 15 cm possible in some areas.

Temperatures hovering near zero may limit the amount of snow that accumulates.

Motorists are advised to allow extra travel time and be prepared for changing conditions.

Environment Canada said temperatures are expected to rise over the weekend, with any accumulated snow likely to melt quickly, improving travel conditions ahead of the long weekend.

Residents are encouraged to monitor forecasts and report severe weather if necessary.
