BCHL’s Interior East Division winning Brooks Bandits take on Saints in first round of playoffs

The Brooks Bandits claimed top spot in the BCHL’s Interior East Division over the weekend and will face the Spruce Grove Saints in the first round of the playoffs.

The series starts with a pair of home games for the Bandits at the Centennial Regional Arena on Friday and Saturday.

With a 37-11-6 record, the Bandits collected points in each of their final 22 games to pass the Blackfalds Bulldogs for top spot in the division.

The Saints finished 4th in the division with a record of 29-22-2-1.

Brooks has been dominant against the Saints over the regular season, winning six of seven meetings.

The Bandits and Saints are meeting for the first time in the BCHL playoffs, but had met in six AJHL championship series in 2013, 2015, 2016, 2019, 2022 and 2023. The Bandits won five of those series.

Bandits forward Jack Good led the team in points to end the season and was third in the BCHL with 70 in 54 games. He also led the BCHL in assists with 48.

Leading the Bandits in goals was Liam Fitzpatrick with 34 in 53 games. He was two goals shy of the league lead. Fitzpatrick also sat second in team points with 58, which was 18th in the league.

The Bandits had five forwards with 20 or more goals this season. Fitzpatrick, joined by Isaac Johnson, who had 30; Jack Rosensteel with 26, and Good and Harry Ahlberg each had 22.

Leading the league in wins by a goaltender was the Bandits’ Zach Zahara with 30. He was also in the top spot in minutes played at 2,572, and games played at 43.

Bandits playoff ticket packages and single-game tickets are on sale at the Bandits office in the CRA lobby from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday to Friday, or online at brooksbandits.net.

All games are scheduled for 7 p.m. puck drops.
