YMCA launches community survey to improve future fitness and recreation programs

Mar 23, 2026 | 2:43 PM

The YMCA of Southeastern Alberta is asking area residents to share their thoughts on local health, fitness and recreation needs through a new community survey.

The organization said it is looking for feedback, particularly from non-members, as it explores updates to its membership model and overall health and fitness offerings.

The survey aims to identify what residents value most and where improvements can be made in areas such as fitness programming, aquatics and water safety, and child and youth services.

Sharon Hayward, CEO of the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta, said the survey is aimed at ensuring programs reflect what the community needs and values, particularly in health, fitness and aquatics at its Downtown and South Ridge locations.

Hayward said the feedback will help guide improvements to access, boost participation and strengthen the organization’s overall impact.

Participants who complete the survey can enter to win a free one-year YMCA membership.

The organization is encouraging residents to share the survey widely to help gather diverse feedback, as the survey is confidential and open to adults living in southeastern Alberta.

The survey is open until March 30 on the YMCA of Southeastern Alberta Community website.
