Kraft Hockeyville announces Taber as top 2 finalist for $250K prize and NHL game

Mar 23, 2026 | 11:08 AM

Taber has been named one of two finalists for the 2026 Kraft Hockeyville competition.

The Saturday announcement places Taber in the final round of the national contest after being selected from the Provincial and Territorial winners that drew widespread support and hundreds of submissions highlighting the importance of the arena.

As part of the Provincial and Territorial contest, the Taber Community Centre has received a $50,000 prize for rink upgrades among 12 other rinks across the country.

Taber will face Tumbler Ridge, B.C., in the national vote to receive a prize of $250,000 in arena upgrades and the opportunity to host an NHL pre-season game.

Officials from the Town of Taber said in a release that the community is honoured to stand alongside Tumbler Ridge in advancing to the finals.

With the outcome now in the hands of voters, officials said being named the top 2 in the country reflects the strength of community engagement and support from across the nation.

In the release, officials said an explosion at the Taber Community Centre on Dec. 17, 2025, left the facility unusable, halting ice activities that had long served as a hub for local players, families and volunteers.
