Redcliff’s Cash Olson is one of three finalists for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League Rookie of the Year.

Olson, 18, plays as a forward for the Estevan Bruins and led the league in points by a rookie during the regular season.

He had 49 points in 56 games with 15 goals and 34 assists. He also had 32 penalty minutes.

Olson played his minor hockey locally in Redcliff, Medicine Hat, and with the South Alberta Hockey Academy.

Also nominated are 17-year-old Yorkton Terriers forward Cash Lanigan and 18-year-old Melfort Mustangs goaltender Kason Kobelka.

Lanigan had 48 points, including 19 goals in 55 games, with 100 penalty minutes. He was second in rookie points, just one behind Olson.

Kobelka was 19-9-1-2 on the season with a 2.33 goals against average and a .915 save percentage. Among all qualified netminders, not just rookies, he had the second-best save percentage, the sixth-best save percentage, and was fifth in wins.

Winners are being announced on Wednesday.

The SJHL playoffs start on Friday.
