Train derails after missing curve south of Lethbridge
LETHBRIDGE COUNTY – A train went off the rails south of Lethbridge near Township Road 7-2 and Highway 4 Monday afternoon, July 30, after it reportedly missed a curve.
Coaldale RCMP Staff Sgt. Glenn Henry provided the explanation at the scene, noting that the 10 CP Rail cars that were derailed were carrying canola.
“There is currently no danger to the public,” said Lethbridge County Chief Administrative Officer Ann Mitchell in a statement provided to the media. “Emergency crews are working hard at the scene and the public is asked to drive with caution in the area and observe posted detours.”
County officials also noted that Township Road 7-2 at Highway 4 is closed and will remain that way until further notice.
