A mix of snow, clouds and sun is in the forecast this weekend for Medicine Hat, according to Environment Canada.

Snow is falling in the city on Friday, with five to 10 cm expected. The temperature will drop to -11 C in the afternoon with a wind chill of -19 C. In the evening, 10 cm of snowfall is expected, at times heavy, with a low of -14 C. Wind chill near -20 C.

Saturday will see the snow ending in the morning, followed by a mix of sun and cloud. The expected high is -8 C with a wind chill of -20 in the morning and -14 C in the afternoon. The evening looks to be cloudy with a low of -15 C.

Sunday things warm up with it showing as sunny with a high of zero C, and clear in the evening with a low of -4 C.

💎 Medicine Hat Rock N’ Gem Show

FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Rock N’ Gem Show runs all weekend in the Pavilion at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede’s Cypress Centre.

The event brings together a collection of crystals, fossils, gemstones, and handcrafted jewelry for you to discover.

Show Hours are Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A UV Exclusive Event takes place on Friday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., where you can see the minerals glow under ultraviolet light. RSVP for the UV Exclusive is required by calling 587-377-5722.

Tickets available for purchase at the door for $3, or $7 for a family, with children 5 & under free.

🐍 Medicine Hat College Rattlers

FRIDAY

The Medicine Hat College Rattlers men’s basketball team hosts its final home game of the season Friday at the College’s Snake Pit Gym.

Tip-off is at 7 p.m.

The Rattlers women’s hockey team’s home games have concluded. They are on the road to Lloydminster for a weekend playoff series against the Lakeland College Rustlers.

It’s the Rattlers first playoff appearance, and the full playoff schedule is available through the ACAC website.

The Rattlers’ indoor track team will attend the final grand prix event before the championship next weekend.

The Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks are hosting the event at the University of Lethbridge on Saturday.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

FRIDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs begin the Heritage Junior Hockey League South Finals on Friday night at the Kinplex Arena against the Cannex Cochrane Generals.

In the regular season, the Cubs had two wins, two losses, and an overtime loss against the Generals, with neither team winning a home game.

The Cubs will look to change that trend on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. puck drop.

They are on the road in Cochrane on Sunday for game two.

🎵 Arrival – ABBA Tribute and Dinner Theatre

FRIDAY

Arrival, a Tribute to ABBA, will play at the Medicine Hat Lodge on Friday night.

The six-piece band performs in full costumes, similar to the actual styles worn by the original band.

The band of professional musicians has played hundreds of shows over the last few years in casinos, theatres and at corporate events, all around the world.

The group is a six-piece cover band that performs in full costumes similar to those worn by Fleetwood Mac.

Included with tickets is a deluxe dinner buffet.

Doors open at 6 p.m., the buffet starts at 7 p.m., and the performance is at 8:30 p.m.

Ages 12 and over are welcome.

Tickets are $79 plus taxes and fees, and are available online through Eventbrite.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY and SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers start a home and home series with the Calgary Hitmen Friday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The teams return to Co-op Place Saturday night.

The Tigers have won four straight games, with five wins and one loss in the season series with the Hitmen.

Puck drop both nights is at seven.

The radio broadcast on Wild 94-5 starts with the pre-game on Friday at 6:45 p.m. and Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Will Bryant will have the call on Friday and is joined by Lance Doll on colour commentary on Saturday.

📕 Activities at Medicine Hat Public Library

SATURDAY

The Busy Bee Playgroup for ages one to three takes place at the Medicine Hat Public Library on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.

It’s a drop-in event where little ones can explore, create and get curious with loose parts play.

All sorts of fun, age-appropriate materials for kids to move, stack, tinker, and play with will be there.

Children must have an adult caregiver present with them at all times during this program.

An event for teens aged 13 to 19 takes place in the Honeycomb House at the library with the Doodle Den.

A chance to improve art skills by drawing together and giving each other tips and tricks to improve.

Art supplies are available, or you can bring your own.

This runs on Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

🧘 Stillness & Numbers

SATURDAY

Stillness and Numbers is a project between YogaRevolution and Miller’s Emporium.

It’s an afternoon designed to slow down, connect, and explore meaning, both on and off the mat.

It starts with a 60-minute Candlelight Rest and Restorative yoga practice at YogaRevolution.

Following yoga, a walk across the street to Miller’s Emporium continues the experience with heart-centred tea and a numerology session.

The +1 Project is about building community by bringing people together who may be curious about yoga, numerology, or simply trying something new.

The event runs Saturday from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and has limited space.

Yoga at YogaRevolution is $25 plus GST. YogaRevolution punch pass and active memberships may be used, with booking and payment completed through YogaRevolution.

Numerology at Miller’s Emporium is $20 plus GST per person. Payment is collected directly by Miller’s Emporium during the event.

🚶 Coldest Night of the Year walk

SATURDAY

The Mustard Seed’s Coldest Night of the Year walk will take place Saturday in Medicine Hat.

An event that helps raise funds that remain in Medicine Hat to support The Mustard Seed’s local shelter, meal, health, and outreach services, as well as future programming to meet the evolving needs of those vulnerable in the community.

Those looking to join the walk can register through The Mustard Seed’s website.

Registration at the event begins at 4 p.m. with the walk starting at 5 p.m. and a light meal at 6 p.m.

It will take place at the Medicine Hat Exhibition & Stampede grounds located at 2055 21 Ave SE.

📽 Movies at the Monarch Theatre

SATURDAY and SUNDAY

A pair of movies is showing at the historic Monarch Theatre this weekend.

On Saturday night at 7 p.m., the 2019 comedy/romance Yesterday will be on the big screen.

The film is about a struggling singer-songwriter in England who, after an accident, wakes up to find the Beatles never existed. He then begins performing their songs with success.

On Sunday at 2 p.m., the 1999 comedy/drama Babe will be the Matinee showing.

The story is about a pig named Babe who interacts with other animals on a farm after a farmer wins him at the county fair.

Tickets are $5 Cash, and the concession is available with two items for $5.

The door opens one hour before each movie.

🎸Tied Up With Bluegrass

SATURDAY

The Liquid Concert and Event Venue will have five bands take the stage on Saturday night for a night of Bluegrass music.

Performing is Wheels, Bramble & The Rose, Casey Jones & The Trainwreck, Derek Hintz Trio, and Sons of Carol.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are $29.50 plus tax and available at the door.

🎯 Medicine Hat Activity Expo

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Activity Expo is this Sunday at the Medicine Hat Mall with 75 or more local sport and event organizations showcasing their clubs and events.

The mall’s hallways will have a variety of booths to find out more about each or even register.

Youth sports, arts and culture, adult activities, and more are included.

There are also some trials and discounts being offered through the expo.

The event showcase runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The monthly Kinsmen Free Swim event returns on Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
