During the early morning hours on Sunday, Medicine Hat’s Amy Fraser, who now resides in Calgary, took to the slopes in Italy to compete in the finals of the Freestyle Skiing Women’s Freeski Halfpipe competition at the Winter Olympics.

Fraser ended up just short of winning a medal, taking fourth spot, but improved her score from qualifying on both the first run with an 85 and the last run with an 88. Her second run didn’t result in a score.

She had qualified for the finals after posting the seventh-best score in qualifying on Thursday with an 81.75.

The result is a four-spot improvement from her eighth-place finish at the 2022 Beijing Games.

Fraser was the top Canadian Skiier in the event, with Rachael Karker of Guelph, Ont., taking seventh spot, and Calgary’s Cassie Sharpe unable to compete after an injury in qualifying.

Taking gold was China’s Eileen Gu, who won the event for the second straight Olympics. China’s Fanghui Li won silver, and Great Britain’s Zoe Atkin won bronze.

Chat News had reached out to the Team Canada Freestyle Skiing media representative before the Olympics in an attempt to secure an interview with Fraser.

However, after the conclusion of the Olympics, the representative said that Fraser has decided to pass on that opportunity.
