Medicine Hat City Council will discuss Transportation Master Plan pause and rezonings on Tuesday

Feb 14, 2026 | 2:00 PM

Medicine Hat City Council will meet on Tuesday, following the Family Day weekend.

A notice of motion regarding the Transportation Master Plan will be discussed, as the council decides on pausing further policy engagement until the fourth quarter of 2026.

The agenda noted that recent transportation engagement has demonstrated the need to strengthen public trust and rebuild community confidence in transportation decision-making to align with Council-approved policies, and to improve public understanding of how those policies inform decisions.

The Riverside Corridor engagement process is being looked at as a trust-building opportunity.

Results of the 2026 IPSOS Survey are expected to offer important insight into community perspectives and the impacts of recent transportation changes, and the council is expected to direct administration to use these results to provide them insight into the changes.

Council will hear a presentation on the 2026 property assessment results.

A pair of bylaws will also be discussed by the council for first reading related to the rezoning of a property on South Boundary Road Southwest and a land title designation change for berm infrastructure.

The rezoning application has been submitted by the landowner for the purpose of facilitating future development on the site.

The municipal works department completed flood mitigation projects in the Riverside, Harlow and Strathcona areas in 2022.

The designation change is required to properly reflect the berm infrastructure on the affected land titles.

It’s being recommended that the council approve an update to the Community Funding Framework as recommended by the Community Vibrancy Advisory Board.
