Medicine Hat and several southern Alberta communities set temperature records on Wednesday

Temperatures reached double digits in southern Alberta on Wednesday, and several temperature records fell.

Medicine Hat set a new record, reaching 17.9 C, breaking a 34-year-old mark of 15.7 C from 1992.

Lethbridge was the first community in Canada to hit the 20-degree mark in 2026 according to The Weather Network.

On Wednesday, Lethbridge hit 20.6 C, but that was shy of the record for the community.

Bow Island wasn’t far behind that mark at 20.3 C, more than doubling the previous record of 9.8 C set in 2012.

Other record highs set on Wednesday included:

Brooks at 18.5 C, beating the 1964 mark of 11.7 C.

The One Four area reached a high of 15.8 C, beating the 1963 mark of 12.8 C.

Pincher Creek was 16.1 C compared to the 13.9 C mark in 1963.

Waterton Park got to 15.2 C to beat the 2009 record of 13.9 C.

Crowsnest Pass reached 13.1 C to eclipse the mark of 10.5 C from 2009.
