School record runs for a pair of Medicine Hat College Rattlers at ACAC meet

Daniel Friesen led the way for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers Track team, as they competed at an Alberta College Athletic Conference meet in Edmonton on Saturday.

Friesen, a Rattlers rookie and McCoy High School grad, placed second in the men’s 50 metres with a time of 6.15 seconds, setting a new Rattlers school record for the run.

Rattlers coach Bill Corcoran said the performance was the best-ever indoor clocking in any event for a Rattlers running, with a score of 897 on the World Athletics Scoring Tables.

Friesen led most of the way during the run, but was unable to hold off NAIT’s Malachi Muir in the last few metres. Muir was the Canadian Indoor 200 metres champion in 2025.

It was also a record-setting performance for another Rattlers runner and 2025 McCoy High School grad.

Logan Pancoast earned a pair of school records.

He had a time of 9:47.31 in the 3000 metres to place third, and ran a 4:37.84 in the 1500 metres to place seventh.

Both beat than the previous records set in 2022.

The Rattlers’ rookies continued to impress, with Reyna Woodruff taking second spot in the women’s 1500 metres with a time of 5:29.48.

As a team the Rattlers women’s team placed fifth, and the men sixth out of 12 ACAC teams.

The Rattlers track team is back in action at a meet hosted by Red Deer Polytechnic on Feb. 14.

Results will be available through the ACAC website.
