Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: January 16-18

After a week of strong winds and warm temperatures, Medicine Hat will look to remain sunny but will drop to a low of -19 with the wind chill, according to Environment Canada.

Friday is mainly sunny with a high of -1 C during the day and a low of -13 in the evening with a wind chill of -19.

Saturday is projected to be sunny with a high of 7 C with a morning wind chill of -14, and the evening will be windy with a low of -8.

Sunday is also sunny, with a high of -7 C and a low of -12 C at night.

🥙 Sledge Hockey Classic

FRIDAY, SATURDAY AND SUNDAY

The Larry Godin Sledge Hockey Classic takes place all weekend in the arenas at the Big Marble Go Centre and Hockey Hounds Rec Centre.

Games get underway on Friday, starting at 5 p.m. and will run until Sunday afternoon.

As part of the tournament, the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services will compete against the Medicine Hat Police Service again this year in a game at the Big Marble Go Centre on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Seven teams are competing in the intermediate division, with four in the junior division.

🎨 Medicine Hat College Art Exhibitions

FRIDAY

The Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre is hosting a public reception celebrating the Art and Design Faculty of Medicine Hat College at 7 p.m.

The exhibitions showcase local artists Deborah Forbes, Kimberly Sibbald and Robert Weissmann, along with Inuit artist Pudlo Pudlat and TREX artist Sadia Fakih, featuring works in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation, digital design and typography.

There will be a cash bar and live music by Derek Hintz, as well as in-depth insights into each exhibition.

🎙 Comedy Night at Elements Lounge

FRIDAY

Medicine Hat Lodge’s Elements Lounge is hosting comedy night at 8 p.m., featuring a live performance from Byron Bertram.

Admissions are $10 with limited seating available.

🐯 Medicine Hat Tigers

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Tigers look to extend their franchise record winning streak to 19, as they host two games this weekend against the Edmonton Oil Kings and Prince Albert Raiders at Co-op Place.

The Tigers will face the Oil Kings on Friday and the Raiders on Saturday, as puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.

Will Bryant will have the call for the radio broadcast of both games on Wild 94.5 FM, when he is joined on colour by Lance Doll, starting with the pre-game tonight at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday also at 6:30 p.m.

🐍 Rattlers Volleyball

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The men’s and women’s Rattlers volleyball teams play host this weekend against the Olds College Broncos.

The women’s volleyball team will start their first game at 6 p.m. on Friday and their second game at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The men’s volleyball team play at 8 p.m. on Friday and at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

🦌 Pecha Kucha Vol. 36

SATURDAY

The Medicine Hat Public Library is organizing Pecha Kucha Vol. 36 at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre at 7:30 p.m.

The Esplanade will host an evening of engaging stories exploring cultural identity, aimed at connecting with the community, along with presentations from passionate speakers on a range of topics in a 20×20 format with 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each.

The program is free to attend and available to anyone, but suggested donations of $5 are welcome.

🎭 The Iron Giant at Monarch Theatre

SATURDAY

The Monarch Theatre will feature The Iron Giant on Saturday for a fun family outing that’s great for animation lovers and anyone who hasn’t revisited this heartwarming story in a while.

The doors open at 3 p.m., with the movie starting at 4 p.m.

The admission is $5 and cash only.

🦁 Medicine Hat Cubs

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs host their first home game in two weeks to take on the Cannex Cochrane Generals at the Kinplex arena.

Puck drop takes place at 3 p.m.

🌱 Propagating Prairie Plants

SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is in partnership with the Community Food Connections Association to teach participants how to grow their own prairie plants with an introduction to seed collecting and saving, stratification and other forms of propagation.

The event takes place at Police Point Park, starting at 2 p.m.

Registration is $5 a person, with limited spaces available.

All minors must be accompanied by an adult guardian.

🎬 Stuart Little at the Monarch Theatre

SUNDAY

The Monarch Theatre will showcase a family-friendly favourite, Stuart Little, on Sunday.

The doors open at 1 p.m. with a start time of 2 p.m.

The admission is $5 and cash only.
