Southern Alberta under wind warnings Monday

The City of Medicine Hat and area is under a yellow warning for wind that extends to the Saskatchewan and U.S. borders and north to Empress.

The warning was issued at 1:04 p.m. on Monday.

Environment Canada says that strong west winds with gusts up to 90 km/h are possible this afternoon.

The wind will gradually ease this evening.

The weather provider said that driving conditions will likely be difficult, and there is a risk of injury due to flying or falling debris.

The warning extends to the Lethbridge area and includes the Taber and Coutts area, where wind speeds this morning were anticipated to reach up to 110 km/hr.

The strongest winds were anticipated west of Highway 2 in the Cardston and Fort MacLeod area.

That area also includes the Crowsnest Pass and Pincher Creek areas south to the U.S. border, with southwest Alberta under an orange warning for wind.

Warning for these areas were issued early Monday morning.
