Argonauts head coach Mike Miller unveils his 2026 coaching staff

TORONTO — Mike Miller and Chris Miller are together again.

Chris Miller will serve as the Toronto Argonauts quarterback coach under new head coach Mike Miller, the CFL club announced Thursday. The two, who are not related, spent three seasons together as coaches with the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, where Mike Miller was the club’s quarterback coach (2009-11) and Chris Miller served as receivers coach, passing-game co-ordinator and offensive co-ordinator (2007-12).

Mike Miller was hired as Toronto’s head coach Dec. 1 to replace Ryan Dinwiddie, who left to become the Ottawa Redblacks head coach and general manager. Miller joined the Argos as quarterback coach in 2022.

Chris Miller, 60, was an 1987 first-round pick of the Atlanta Falcons and over 10 NFL seasons also played quarterback for the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams (1994-95) and Denver Broncos (1999).

Mike Miller’s staff will also feature the return of former Argos players Ka’Deem Carey and Demetrious Maxie.

Carey helped Toronto win the ’24 Grey Cup as a running back before earning another title last year with Saskatchewan despite his ’25 season being cut short due to injury. Carey will now serve as the Argos’ running back coach.

Maxie won two Grey Cups with Toronto as a defensive lineman (1996-97) and earned another as an assistant coach in 2024. He was Edmonton’s special-teams co-ordinator and defensive assistant last year and will work as the Argos defensive line coach and assistant head coach this year.

Dom Picard remains with Toronto although in a different capacity. The all-star offensive lineman will be the Argos’ offensive line coach after serving as running backs the last two seasons.

Mickey Donovan returns for a fifth season as Toronto’s special-teams co-ordinator.

Rounding out Miller’s staff will be Kierrie Johnson (receivers), Colyn Haugh (offensive line assistant, quality control), Greg Quick (defensive co-ordinator/linebackers), Jovon Johnson (defensive backs) and Bubba Walker (linebackers assistant, quality control).

This will mark Quick’s third stint in Toronto, having worked as linebackers coach in 2010-11 and ’18. He spent the last five seasons with Montreal working in various roles on defence and special teams, winning a Grey Cup with the Alouettes in 2023.

Johnson was the CFL’s outstanding player in 2011 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, becoming the first defensive back to earn the honour. A 12-year CFL veteran and ’07 Grey Cup champion, Johnson coached the last two years at Gannon University.
