Tigers, Wheat Kings set to put seven-plus game win streaks on the line

Dec 17, 2025 | 11:39 AM

The two hottest teams in the Western Hockey League square off tonight inside Co-op Place as the Central Division-leading Medicine Hat Tigers battle the Brandon Wheat Kings to conclude the first half of the WHL season.

The meeting marks the third game of the season between the clubs, with Brandon having won the first two matchups.

Both teams are undefeated in the month of December.

Brandon has won their last seven games, dating back to a December 3rd win over the Saskatoon Blades, while Medicine Hat has won their previous nine games, with their last defeat coming on November 21st in a shootout to Red Deer.

Goaltending has played a major part in both clubs’ recent success.

First-year Czechian netminder Filip Ruzicka has compiled a 6-1-0-0 record over his last seven starts with a staggering 0.946 SV% and 1.72 GAA for Brandon.

Not to be outdone, Tigers second-year goaltender Jordan Switzer has been excellent over his last four starts, going 4-0-0-0 with a similarly impressive 0.939SV% and 1.50 GAA.

Tonight’s game will also feature a meeting of the league’s top two goal scorers, Tigers defenseman Bryce Pickford, who leads all WHL skaters with 24 goals, and Wheat Kings forward Joby Baumuller, who sits second with 23.

Both players are also the two most recent WHL Players of the Week: Pickford, who won it two weeks ago, and Baumuller, the reigning Player of the Week.

After tonight, the Tigers head on their holiday break and will be out of action until December 27th when they begin the second-half of the WHL season against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The meeting of two red-hot teams in the ice-cold of winter gets underway tonight at 7:00 p.m MST with the pre-game show beginning at 6:30 on WILD 94.5 FM.
