Here is what’s on this weekend in Medicine Hat: November 28-30

It’s the final weekend of November, and Environment Canada’s forecast calls for some cooler temperatures and snow.

Shopping will be top of mind with Black Friday here, and Cyber Monday coming up.

Friday will see snow and blowing snow with 2 to 4 cm expected, and 15 cm over the Cypress Hills. Wind gusts will reach up to 50 km/hr early in the afternoon. A high of -8 C is expected, with the wind chill -20 C in the afternoon. In the evening, the light snow will end early, then it will be partly cloudy. There will be snow over the Cypress Hills late this evening and overnight. The low is -16 C, which matches the wind chill, which will cool to -21 C overnight.

Saturday is set to be mainly sunny with a high of -11 C. The wind chill at -17 C in the morning and -22 C in the afternoon. The evening is set to be clear with a low of -23 C.

Sunday is sunny, with a high of -9 C, with a clear evening and a low of -13 C.

🎄Christmas Markets

FRIDAY

The Chinook Village Christmas Market goes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday in the Terrace Room.

Unique handmade gifts, festive treats, live music and holiday cheer can be expected.

Everyone is welcome, and admission is free.

The Medalta’s Heritage Christmas Market runs Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 713 Medalta Ave. SE.

Over 50 vendors will be on site with handmade goods, artisan creations, and one-of-a-kind holiday gifts.

There will be a Kids’ Creation Station where the little ones can craft something special, with live music on site to set the holiday mood.

SATURDAY

The Medalta’s Heritage Christmas Market continues on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with Santa and his elves onsite from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The St. Louis School Christmas Market runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, with local vendors, student vendors, raffle prizes, a 50/50 draw, a bake sale and a special guest visiting in the afternoon. It’s located at 861 Fourth St. SE.

🏬 Moonlight Madness at Medicine Hat Mall

FRIDAY

Moonlight Madness starts Friday at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. at the Medicine Hat Mall.

Purchases from 6 p.m. onward will qualify you to enter for prize draws, with every $50 spent giving you an entry.

There will be prize draws every 30 minutes starting at 6:30 p.m., with a grand prize draw for a $500 Medicine Hat Mall Gift Card at 9:30 p.m.

There is no purchase necessary for your first entry, and you must be on-site to win.

🎅Christmas Movies at the Monarch Theatre

FRIDAY AND SUNDAY

Whether you think Die Hard is a Christmas movie or not, the 1988 film will be shown at the Monarch Theatre on Saturday.

Bruce Willis stars in the film about a New York City policeman who is at a holiday party at Nakotomi Plaza with his family, when the high-rise is taken over by terrorists.

The show starts Friday at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

The Santa Clause, with Tim Allen will be shown on Sunday at 2 p.m. Doors open at 1:15 p.m.

Admission for either show is a $5 cash entry fee, and the concession will be two items for $5.

🎸 Mahoney & Friends at the Esplanade

FRIDAY

Mahoney and Friends play the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The two-man band has established itself as a mainstay on the Medicine Hat music scene over the past 25 years, and will play this show with other local artists.

The show is expected to have something for everyone.

Tickets are $45 and available on tixx.ca.

🐍 Medicine Hat College Rattlers

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

Medicine Hat College Rattlers’ basketball takes over the Snake Pit this weekend.

Men’s and Women’s teams host Northwestern Polytechnic out of Grande Prairie on Friday.

Saturday, they host The King’s University from Edmonton.

Both days, the women start at 6 p.m., with the men playing at 8 p.m.

🏒 Medicine Hat Cubs

FRIDAY AND SUNDAY

The Medicine Hat Cubs will look to keep their five-game winning streak going Friday.

They host the south division-leading Agra Rink Wheatland Kings out of Strathmore, and can overtake them for top spot in the south with a win.

Puck drop is at 7:30 p.m.

The Cubs also host the Sylvan Lake Wranglers on Sunday at 3 p.m.

The Grinch will be on-site at Sunday’s game to support Santa for Seniors, with photos available for $5.

They will also be accepting gift donations for seniors, including unwrapped blankets and personal care items to put under the donation tree.

There will also be raffle prizes, crafts and intermission activities.

Both games are at the Kinplex.

🏒 Brooks Bandits

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY

The Brooks Bandits have a pair of home games this weekend.

On Friday, the Sherwood Park Crusaders meet the Bandits for the fourth time this season. The Bandits hold the edge in the season series, two games to one. One point behind the Crusaders in the standings, the Bandits will look to overtake them for second in the Interior East Division.

On Saturday, the Coquitlam Express face the Bandits for the only time during the regular season, and the first time since the Bandits joined the BCHL. The Express are the top team in the Coastal East Division.

Puck drop is at 7 p.m. for both games at the Centennial Regional Arena.

🎅Holiday Craft Fair and Santa Photos

SATURDAY

Paws4Resiliency is hosting a Holiday Craft Fair on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at #3 1611 Broadway Ave. E in Redcliff.

A variety of vendors on site, drinks and baked goods will also be available for purchase.

Dogs are welcome, and Santa will be on-site for photos.

🦕 Dino Safari at Medicine Hat Public Library

SATURDAY

Grab your favourite dino buddy and join the Medicine Hat Library for an hour of roaring good fun as they celebrate “Dinovember!

First, they’ll join the Royal Tyrrell Museum live for an interactive online program.

Meet the dinosaurs in the Museum’s world-famous Dinosaur Hall on a Dino Safari, learn about the different types of dinosaurs found in Alberta and see some real fossils.

This will be followed by a tyranno-rific storytime, craft and a dino dig.

For ages 4-6 with adult supervision.

It runs Saturday from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., and requires online registration at mhpl.info/register.

🛼 Gas City Roller Derby Games

SATURDAY

Gas City Roller Derby has a pair of games on Saturday at the Cypress Centre.

The level one and two Pilot lights take on the Windy City Wipeouts at 3 p.m.

Then at 5 p.m., three level three Inferno take on the Deathbridge Rollers.

🎥 Mary Poppins at the Monarch Theatre

SATURDAY

A special showing of Mary Poppins takes place at the Monarch Theatre on Saturday.

The 1964 Disney classic Mary Poppins is hosted by the student cast and crew of Monsignor McCoy’s upcoming Mary Poppins production.

Attendees can also grab tickets for the school production and shop student-designed posters and stickers, with proceeds from these sales supporting the Monsignor McCoy Production Arts Program.

The show starts at 7 p.m., and doors open at 6 p.m.

Admission is by donation, $5 cash only is suggested.The concession will be two items for $5, cash only.

💃A Bellydance Soiree

SATURDAY

The Tone Bellydancers will perform at the Esplanade Saturday night.

At the Soiree, you can expect an up-close experience in the unique, intimate setting of the Esplanade’s beautiful Black Studio Theatre.

The bellydancers present original choreographies created by local instructors and tone owners, Krista and Lindsay.

The show starts at 8 p.m.

Only 72 seats have been made available for the event, with tickets available at tixx.ca.

🎅 Santa Clause is Coming to Town! Parade

The Santa Claus Fund has the Santa Is Coming to Town Parade starting at 6 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre and ending at the Medicine Hat Mall.

They will be accepting donations for the Santa Claus Fund.

SATURDAY

The Kinsmen Free Swim takes place Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Big Marble Go Centre.
