Nov 28, 2025 | 10:16 AM

Prairie Rose Public Schools and Western Tractor hosted the first AgPro Machinery and Technology Student Showcase at South Alberta Collegiate.

The event featured student presentations, a question-and-answer session with Western Tractor employees and a presentation of the Western Tractor Honorary AgPro Awards.

The student presentations highlighted new agricultural technology that Western Tractor has applied to its equipment.

During the Q&A, Western Tractor staff said rapid advances in automation and precision tools are reshaping careers in agriculture and creating new opportunities for students.

The staff emphasized that teamwork is essential as equipment becomes more complex and data-driven.

Modern tractors and sprayers now use sensors, cameras and GPS to detect and respond to field conditions, allowing Western Tractor to monitor machines remotely.

Staff also highlighted advances in See & Spray technology, which now operates at higher speeds and can reduce chemical use.

The agriculture world is changing, according to Western Tractor, as the demand is growing for roles in Precision Agriculture, equipment monitoring and optimization, alongside traditional parts, sales and service positions.

Western Tractor has increased its workforce from about 160 to 220 employees in the past decade.

Students were encouraged to explore the Apprenticeship Program, which several employees credited with launching long-term careers.

Summer students helped expand the system by collecting images of weeds that are used to train the system software.

Nichole Neubauer, the Director of Agriculture Education, thanked Western Tractor for offering students hands-on experiences with high-tech equipment, opportunities that she said often ignite new career interests.

The Honorary AgPro Awards were given to three students who were recognized for their outstanding efforts at Western Tractor.

Neubauer said career options in agriculture will continue to grow with the opening of the Yuill School of Agriculture next Spring.
