Medicine Hat Tigers set to begin 2025-26 campaign against upstart Regina Pats

Sep 20, 2025 | 1:00 PM

The Medicine Hat Tigers‘ 2025-26 season gets underway tonight inside the friendly confines of Co-op Place as they take on the Regina Pats (0-1).

After an undefeated pre-season, the Tigers are set to begin their title defense in front of their hometown crowd.

Before the puck drops on the Tigers’ 2025-26 season, the club will hang their Championship banners from last season, holding one last celebration before turning the page on a new year.

This new season will see ten fresh faces don the orange and black, nine of whom will be making their WHL debut.

Medicine Hat carries over 14 players from last season’s WHL Championship-winning roster, including their starting netminder Jordan Switzer.

Switzer, fresh back from Calgary Flames rookie camp, had a stellar rookie campaign last season.

The native of Edmonton, Alta., put up a staggering 23-6-2-2 record, alongside a 2.65 GAA, 0.901 SV%, while posting four shutouts in his freshman season.

The Tigers will also see five of six defenseman return from last season’s championship core, an area the team expects to be a strong point for them this season.

Up front, Medicine Hat will be led by the young guns from last season, Liam and Markus Ruck, alongside Shaeffer Gordon-Carroll.

Newcomers Noah Davidson, Gavin Kor, and Kade Stengrim will also look to provide instant impact in their first seasons in the WHL.

Across the ice from the Tigers will be a young and hungry Regina Pats squad that is coming off an opening night loss in Swift Current.

The Pats will be led by two of the top three overall selections from the 2025 WHL Prospects Draft, Maddox Schultz (1st overall) and Liam Pue (3rd overall).

Pue found the back of the net in his WHL debut while Schultz was held off the scoresheet, but both will aim to factor into the Regina offense Saturday night as the club looks for its first win of the season.

The Tigers have won their last seven meetings with Regina, dating back to January 20, 2024, and have not lost to the Pats inside Co-op Place since November 23, 2021.

Puck drop is slated for 7:00 p.m. and the pre-game show gets underway at 6:30 p.m. on WILD 94.5.
