The Medicine Hat Tigers wrapped up their 2025 WHL preseason with a 5-2 victory over the Kelowna Rockets to claim the Northern Lights Cup.

The win puts a bow on an undefeated preseason for the Tigers after they opened with a pair of wins over the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Cats opened the scoring 57 seconds in with Noah Davidson’s second goal of the preseason.

Kelowna’s Kalder Varga would respond on the power play nine minutes later to square the game at one.

Medicine Hat would continue to find themselves in penalty trouble but would manage to escape the frame unscathed and enter the first intermission tied at one.

Five minutes into the second period, Rockets forward Kayden Longley would give Kelowna their first lead of the showcase, making it 2-1 Rockets.

The lead would be short-lived as seven minutes later, Noah Davidson would pot his second of the night to square the game at two on the Cats’ first man-advantage of the night.

The game would remain tied at two entering the third, when the Tigers would retake the lead five minutes into the frame when Gavin Kor ripped a power play goal past Kelowna netminder Jake Pilon.

Medicine Hat would hold on from there, adding a pair of empty netters en route to the 5-2 win.

Gavin Kor was named player of the game for the Tigers for scoring the series-clinching marker early in the third period.

Cruz Chase stopped 38 of 40 shots on the night for Medicine Hat.

The Medicine Hat Tigers will now begin to prepare for their regular-season opener Saturday, September 20th, against the Regina Pats.

Tickets for Saturday’s home opener can be purchased online at Tixx.ca or in person at the Co-op Place box office.
