Gas City Ball Hockey League hosting provincials with season wrapped up

The Gas City Ball Hockey League is days away from a hosting ball hockey provincials for the first time.

Forty teams spread across five divisions ranging from U9 to U18 will compete at rinks across the city for a chance to be named the top team in Alberta.

Games start Friday at noon and will run through Monday at the Moose Recreation Centre, Hound Hounds Recreation Centre, and both the Kinplex 1 and 2 arenas.

The GCBHL teams have been rebranded from the Bruisers to the Scorchers for the season and will have nine teams competing during the provincial tournament.

Over the weekend the regular season concluded for the GCBHL with Championship Sunday.

Taking home top spot in the U9 division was the Cobras.

The U11 title went to the Marshallows who took home a 7-4 win over the Green Goblins.

The U13 title went to the Cheetos who defeated the Fury in a very close 4-3 overtime battle.

Team Black played a strong game and defeated Team Yellow 11-2 to be the top team in the U15 division.

The Chickey Jockey team won top spot in the U18 division with a 8-3 win over the Pterodactyls.

The team completed the season with a perfect 17-0 record en route to the title.
