Fire contained to top floor suite shuts down Silver Buckle Sports Bar in Medicine Hat

A fire that was contained to the third floor of the Silver Buckle Sports Bar building occurred early Sunday morning in Medicine Hat, originating in a tenant’s suite on the top floor.

“We are relieved to report that the fire was contained to that suite, and both The Buckle and the rest of the building remain unharmed,” the sports bar said in a Facebook post Sunday.

The bar said there was some water and smoke damage as a result of the fire. It said it doesn’t yet know the cause of the fire.

“Our thoughts are with all of our tenants who have been temporarily relocated, leaving their belongings behind,” the bar said.

The bar said that the incident was a reminder of how essential fire and smoke alarms are in protecting lives.

As a result of water damage from firefighting efforts, the bar will be closed for the next couple of days to make necessary repairs.

“Thankfully, the fire did not spread beyond the affected suite, thanks to the swift response of the MHFD. We have some work to do, but we will be back!”

Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services told CHAT News the cause of the fire is an ongoing investigation.
