Medicine Hat police catch six impaired drivers during holiday checkstop program

Six impaired drivers were identified and taken off the streets by the Medicine Hat Police Service’s holiday checkstop program.

Police also issued three impaired driving sanction warnings and discovered a pair of novice drivers that had their vehicles impounded as well.

The MHPS, assisted by RCMP and the Alberta sheriffs, checked 2,540 vehicles over five evenings in December, according to Medicine Hat police Sgt. Stacey Fishley.

“It’s usually about this number,” Fishley told CHAT News on Thursday.

“Thankfully, the citizens of Medicine Hat — quite a few of them — decide that they’re not going to drink and drive, and they make preparations before they go out.”

Fishley said it’s important that people make plans to get home without driving impaired.

“Just remember, when it comes to drinking and driving, it’s not tolerated,” he said.
