Medicine Hat police file charges after front porch parcel thefts

Police said Wednesday that a suspect allegedly stealing parcels from porches across Medicine Hat has been arrested.

A 38-year-old man was charged on Nov. 8 in connection with several reports of theft that occurred after packages were delivered and left unattended, police said.

It is believed that the suspect may be linked to other similar incidents, and investigations are ongoing, according to a police statement.

As parcel delivery increases as the holiday season approaches, the Medicine Hat Police Service gave several tips for to deter the so-called porch pirate thefts:

– Use an Amazon locker or pickup point: Many retailers, including Amazon, offer secure locker or pickup point options for convenient and safe parcel retrieval.
