Medicine Hat’s Mustard Seed sees influx of hand-made knitted goods ahead of winter

The local Mustard Seed shelter recently received a series of donated items that had an extra amount of care put into them.

Donations can come in countless varying forms, but the time that went into the hand-made knitted items recently given has not gone unnoticed.

Within a two-week span, generosity poured in to the Mustard Seed in the form of hand made knitted clothing, just in time for the cold weather.

Dani Bolduc, Community Development Specialist at the shelter, greatly appreciates the time people have taken with such donations.

She said clients are greatly appreciative of donations that have that extra sense of intentionality, and knitted mitts and toques are obviously no exception.

“Oh, it’s beautiful. You know, my sister is a knitter, so I know how many hours she works and I know that there has been countless hours poured into going into those knitted items and so it’s awesome to see all of the bright colours and what not.” She said.

Bolduc clarified that they are grateful for all clothing contributions at the Mustard Seed.

“The importance of donating winter gear and everything else that we have on our lists and things for the community is that, during the winter season, we know that there is frost bite, there’s hypothermia.” Bolduc said.

“There’s so many things that can affect someone. And so trying to keep them warm as possible is super important.” She added.

The intentionality of knitted items was a pleasant surprise, and indicates the community’s dedication to the shelter.

The donations of carefully hand made winter goods has allowed clients to know that they are deserving of quality clothing, that time and care has been put into.
