Medicine Hat Tigers fall to Red Deer Rebels again in fifth match-up of the season

Oct 26, 2024 | 3:25 AM

The Medicine Hat Tigers are continuing to struggle against the Red Deer Rebels.

The Rebels beat the Tigers 4-2 at the Peavey Mart Centrium on Friday.

There was lots of action in the first period to kick the game off.

Jhett Larson of the Rebels scored at only 57 seconds into the game.

The Tigers responded just before the first frame’s halfway mark with a powerplay goal from Andrew Basha, assisted by Gavin McKenna and Bryce Pickford.

Within five minutes of that goal, the Tigers took their only lead of the game with a point scored by Oasiz Wiesblatt, assisted by Pickford and McKenna.

Halfway through the second period, the Rebels tied it up to make it 2-2 with a goal from Jaxon Fuder.

The Rebels were able to take what would become the game-winning lead with another goal before the end of the middle frame, scored by Carson Birnie.

Ollie Josephson was able to find an empty net late in the third to snag the Rebels an insurance goal.

The Tigers have lost to the Rebels four out of the five times they have played each other so far this season.

The Central Division rivals will play each other three more times during the 2024 regular season.

Friday’s loss leaves the Tigers at an even win-loss ratio of 6-6, and third in the division.

The Tigers will next have a chance to have more wins than losses when they take on the Regina Pats at Co-op Place on Saturday night.

Both teams will be wearing special jerseys for the Tigers’ annual cancer fundraiser during Saturday’s game. They will also wear the jerseys for a game in Regina on Nov. 1.

The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off to raise money for the initiative.

Proceeds from Tigers Fight Cancer will go to the Medicine Hat Health Foundation for the Margery E. Yuill Cancer Centre.

Tickets are available online or at the box office. The game will also be live on Wild 94.5 radio.
