A senior Bow Island man was arrested this week and charged with several illicit drug possession charges.

A “substantial amount of cocaine, methamphetamine and proceeds of crime” was seized by the Bow Island RCMP, police said Friday.

Police, with the assistance of the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit, made the drug seizures on Oct. 17 after four search warrants were conducted on a business, a residence and two vehicles in Bow Island.

The 73-year-old Bow Island man was charged with a number of offences including possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.

The investigation began in September in response to community concerns related to drug trafficking in the Bow Island and County of Forty Mile region, police said in a news release.

Judkins was released from custody to await his next scheduled court appearance on Jan. 8, 2025.

Sgt. Alan Rivard, commander of Bow Island’s RCMP detachment, said the arrest ensures Bow Island and the County of Forty Mile remains a safe community.

“Drug trafficking is extremely harmful, especially in small communities, that can jeopardize our neighbourhood’s well-being and put innocent people at risk, this type of illegal activity will not be tolerated,” Rivard said.

In Bow Island, members of the public who suspect drug activity can contact the RCMP by calling 403-545-2100 or submitting tips online via Crime Stoppers.
