It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother Phyllis Ione Lamb on August 15, 2024, at the age of 91 years. Phyllis will be missed by her “chosen children” son Michael, grandchildren Randy (Nicole), Brandy (Darryl) and Elvis; their mom Darcy; great-grandchildren Lennie, Huxley, Anthony and Margo; daughter Jody (Ian) Magill, grandchildren Kathryn and James (Kylie) Stark; great-grandchildren Gracie and Eli; brother Bob (Muriel) Kenyon; sister Carlee Dreger; sister-in-law Lorraine Lamb; and many nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her husband Harold in May 1985, her parents Tom and Gladys Kenyon, and sister Jean Lovane Jensen.
Phyllis was born on October 9, 1932 in Cypress River, Manitoba, where she spent her early years forming lifelong friendships. Phyllis was a very determined and independent woman with many passions including researching and writing books on the Dowd, Kenyon and Lamb family histories. She pursued her dream of being a teacher and especially loved her years teaching at Clydebank school near Eriksdale, Manitoba.
She married Harold in 1956 and built a successful dairy farm operation. She loved being a mom, and the biggest joys in her life were bringing home Michael and Jody and being a grandma and great-grandma. Phyllis was a dedicated hockey and figure skating mom attending games and competitions and being one of the biggest cheerleaders in the stands. She was active in the community with Ladies Aid, 4-H, curling, concerts, and carnivals.
After Harold’s passing, Phyllis and Michael continued to farm for many years eventually transitioning from dairy to cattle farming. Phyllis had tremendous pride for the farm from her large and plentiful vegetable garden to hours spent in her flower beds and painting the many buildings and white fences.
She loved the company of family and friends and always had a pot of coffee and treats ready for visitors. She was a good and loyal friend with a wonderful smile that brightened any room!
Phyllis left the farm in 2012, to move closer to her son Michael’s family. She moved to Medicine Hat in 2023, to be with her daughter Jody. A special thank you to the caring staff and friends she made in Stonewall, Woodlands Manor, Cypress View Foundation and Medicine Hat Care Community, especially her dear friend Ray who filled her last year with dances and outings to church and for ice cream.
A celebration of life honouring Phyllis will be held in Manitoba in 2025. She will be interred at the Cypress River (Glencoe) Cemetery next to her mom and dad. The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice in Phyllis’ name. Cremation has been entrusted to the Pattison Funeral Home and Crematorium.
