Redcliff town staff recommends council not bid on 2027 special olympics

Redcliff town staff are recommending that council not move to submit a bid to host the Alberta Special Olympic Winter Games in 2027.
The town’s operations division says Redcliff should not proceed “considering the extensive list of requirements including facilities that we do not currently have, the short deadline to apply, and the financial commitment involved.”
Staff carefully considered the request but there wasn’t enough grant funding to meet the estimated $498,000 in expenses, operations director Alyshia Neuman wrote in a report to council.
Council will consider a suggested motion to receive the staff report for information during Monday’s public meeting.
