Beef Bowl this weekend at Medicine Hat’s Panorama Lanes

The couple started the event last year after purchasing the bowling facility.

“My wife and I took possession of the Bowling Centre last June, and we started this event with a dream of growing it to being one of the biggest cash tournaments in Canadian history,” Deering said.

“We have a merger of two passions. We ranch, and we own the Bowling Centre. So we bring some cows to town for people to interact with, and we have a beef themed menu throughout the weekend that we supply from our own ranch,” he added.

Deering said they hope to continue growing the event that has doubled in size from last year.

“We have 110 individual entries for this year’s event, with bowlers coming from as far away as Thunder Bay,” Deering said.

The public is welcome to come out and watch and can still get some bowling in.

“We’re always looking for public and community engagement, and people coming to spectate,” Deering said.

“From the participation end, the 10-pin lanes are open all weekend, and five pin is full of bowling from now until Sunday around 5 or 6 o’clock.”

There will be local entertainment Friday and Saturday night at the bowling centre.

“We have Mahoney playing tonight, we have Morgan and David Klaiber playing tomorrow night,” Deering said.

“A burger buffet tonight, and a steak fry supper tomorrow night.”

With it being an open cash tournament there are bowlers playing from across the country.

“It is the upper echelon, the best of the best. All the professional five pin bowlers travel from near and far to hopefully take home the purse at the end of their weekend,” Deering said.

“About $5,500 for first place, and then about $35,000 in cash gets paid out for the weekend.”
