The City of Medicine Hat is doing their part to get Hatters off the couch and outside this summer as they host their first Energy in Motion at Riverside Veterans’ Memorial Park Saturday morning.

13 vendors will be present, including the YMCA and the Medicine Hat College Rattlers to discuss the importance of healthy living.

Hatters can expect a bouncy castle obstacle course, live fitness demonstrations and face painting.

Marketing specialist Kelli Ireland said that the emphasis will be on recreation and hopes the community feedback will help grow the program to include fall and winter activities.

“My goal is that we do this event in the summer to promote summer recreation, outdoor activities and then in the fall it would be really nice. I have a goal to host an even bigger event indoors that promotes sort of that winter sport, winter activity, recreation and healthy living,” Ireland said.

“I think if we could do this two times a year where we’re promoting all the things that Medicine Hat has to offer, indoor, outdoor, summer, spring, fall, winter, all of the seasons, I think that’s going to be really important to keeping people active, keeping people healthy and keeping people connected,” she said.

The event will be free and will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
