Southern Alberta Summer Games returns after four-year hiatus

May 24, 2024 | 5:00 AM

The Southern Alberta Summer Games, an event for people of all ages and skills levels, will make a return in July after a four-year hiatus.

“There’s cribbage, there’s basketball, there’s baseball, there’s swimming, track and field,” said Jonah Carlsson, the regional director of the games for Cypress County.

“There’s something for everybody and it’s a good way to bring all of Southern Alberta together, bring your families together. It’s really, it’s a good grassroots style event,” he added.

Coaldale will be hosting the games with over 20 different sporting events from 13 different regions in Southern Alberta.

There will also be a barbecue, a parade and other fun activities to get involved in.

“What we’re focusing on the most right now is trying to get as many people signed up as possible,” said Wepruk, the regional director for Medicine Hat.

“I know for those people worried about different skills, or if they’re not good enough, don’t worry about it. I’m not good enough either and I’m going to be competing in a bunch of different sports, so it’ll be fun.”

Registration closes May 31 and can be found on the Southern Alberta Summer Games website.

The games run from July 3-6.
