Craig Hale

Craig Robert Hale had his final coke on Friday, March 29, 2024, after not wanting to make a fuss and trying to sell the doctor a couple quarters of land.
Craig was born to the late John and Eileen Hale on January 31, 1954, in Leader, Saskatchewan. Being raised on the farm shaped Craig’s formative years and resulted in a lifetime of frugality, saving everything (in case you needed it), and impressive imagination for mischief. As a younger brother he often inflicted the obnoxious antics of his “military maneuvers” on his “much older and adopted” sister, Marjorie.
Ever a Boy Scout, Craig enjoyed hunting, fishing, and some of his best memories were of camping down at the river or in the Sandhills. He would go on to be a Scout Troop leader and an active member of Wilderness Rendezvous with a particular fondness for the West Block of Cypress Hills.
Craig studied Agriculture at the University of Saskatchewan and spent the rest of his life devoted to the farm, tinkering on machines, and trying (with moderate success) to best the global trade markets. While at university Craig met Glenna Gardiner and they were married on December 28, 1980 to celebrate their love and maximize taxable benefits. They lived and raised their three kids, Heather, Susan, and David in Sceptre, Saskatchewan. After Glenna’s death in July of 1995, the family remained in Sceptre.
Craig ensured that growing up was never dull and the kids learned that a well-reasoned argument and the powers of a good deal would get you further in life than a simple request. Craig made sure that their moral fiber was intact through lending a hand to neighbours, discussion of world events from the living room floor, and a healthy dose of Stuart McLean.
Craig was an active member of his community, taking his turn as Mayor, volunteering for the Sceptre Fire Fighters, and serving on the boards of the Sceptre Credit Union and the Sceptre United Church, even if he took his book to church most Sundays he managed to attend.
After convincing Roanne Doane to give up the city life for the bright lights and grain bins of Sceptre. Craig and Ro shared many grand adventures until the accident that eventually had Craig move to Regina. At Houston Heights, Craig and his good friend Desmond ruled the roost, getting up to all kinds of tomfoolery, shenanigans, and the occasional questionable caper before Craig’s more recent move to Medicine Hat.
Left to carry on the traditions of Hale stubbornness, listening to CBC radio, and caring deeply for family are Craig’s three kids: Heather Hale of Saskatoon, SK, Susan (Wayne) Hammond of Medicine Hat, AB, and David Hale of Slave Lake, AB. Craig took on the role as chief sugar distributor with gusto as ‘Grandpa Freddie’ to Evan and Joel Hammond and feeder of table scraps to Violet and Ryker.
Left to tell the tales of colourful tricks and schemes is his not that much older and certainly not adopted sister Marjorie LaSalle (Blair Argue) of Mane Street Ranch, Saskatchewan, his niece Nadine (Clint) Ceholski (Regina, Saskatchewan), and his nephew Ryan LaSalle (Dodsland, Saskatchewan).
In lieu of flowers, Craig would be happiest if you had a rum or libation of your choice with a friend and bullshit about his goings-on or better yet play a prank on some unsuspecting sap. A private family interment will take place at a later date at Lemsford, Saskatchewan.
