Regan Tate, after an award-winning career in the media industry, moved on from her news director role at CHAT TV on Friday.

Tate started at Pattison Media’s CHAT TV in November 2011, after working as a reporter and assignment editor for Global News in Regina, Sask.

During her time at the Medicine Hat TV station, Tate won several awards, including the Bert Cannings Award for CHAT TV’s flood coverage.

Anchor Dan Reynish reflected on his time working with Tate during much of their respective careers.

“I have known Regan Tate for over 24 years and worked both for and alongside her during that time,” Reynish said.

“She is the reason I’m in Medicine Hat and I’ll always be thankful to her for leading me here. We will miss her immensely at CHAT TV. I will miss her especially. But she has our full support as she follows her professional dreams.”

Director Lynnette Schneider said Tate was crucial to supporting local reporting and its importance while at CHAT News.

“Regan is an unwavering supporter of local journalism and she defended its principles and ideals during her time at CHAT,” Schneider said.

“She served as a mentor to numerous talented young reporters who have since flourished in larger markets both nationally and internationally,” she said.

“Her legacy will be the way she guided our newsroom during significant events like the 2013 flood. She aspired to always tell stories from a Medicine Hat perspective and will be missed. I wish her well in her next chapter and look forward to seeing her around Medicine Hat.”

Sports reporter and occasional anchor Lisa Parent lauded Tate’s leadership.

“Regan served as a highly competent and confident leader in the CHAT Newsroom,” Parent said.

“Her evident passion for capturing stories that resonate with Hatters inspired everyone around her, especially the young journalists she mentored. I have full confidence that Regan will excel in all her future endeavors.”

Digital editor Eli Ridder said he learned a lot through Tate’s guidance.

“While I only knew Regan for a short time, I learned a lot from her about what stories are important and how to cover trials,” Ridder said.

For Adrian St.Onge, Tate was a guide and mentor as he stepped into a new career in journalism.

“Regan was here for my first steps into a sometimes scary and uncertain career path,” St.Onge said.

“She never wavered in her support for me, both professionally and personally, and was always someone I could look to for constructive criticism and support. I can honestly say that my career will forever be impacted by her leadership, and she’s made me a better broadcast professional,” he added.

“Journalists who want to go far in this industry need to blueprint their career after hers. Find your voice, but Regan’s career is one that was always with integrity, honesty and leadership.”

“Her tale as a professional should be celebrated and admired.”
