Alberta Legislature to recognize Black History Month on Monday
The Government of Alberta will recognize Black History Month on Monday in the Legislature rotunda.
Speaker Nathan Cooper will speak about the observance and its theme this year of Inspiring the Arts.
“Black History Month provides Albertans with the opportunity to learn and to share the stories and experiences of Black people in our province,” says Cooper. “It is also a time to celebrate the contributions of Alberta’s Black artist community.”
This event is open to the public and will include remarks by Lieutenant Governor Salma Lakhani; Muhammad Yaseen, Minister of Immigration and Multiculturalism, on behalf of the Premier of Alberta; MLA Rhiannon Hoyle on behalf of the Official Opposition; Darren Jordan of 5 Artists 1 Love, and feature performances by vocalist Nigel J Williams and hip-hop artist Arlo Maverick. There will be art on display during the event by Elsa Robinson a multidisciplinary artist.
