Juliann “Judy” Aubin Harvie (nee Roth) of Medicine Hat passed away peacefully on November 22, 2023, at the age of 71 years. Judy was born in Taber, Alberta on April 5, 1952, to John and Mary Roth of Bow Island. She was the youngest of five siblings and started her life on the farm with her family. She started school at Conquerville and ended a year of school at Notre Dame in Wilcox, Saskatchewan. She remembered her year away at school fondly, as well as the school trip to Montreal for Expo ’67. She graduated from Catholic Central High School in Lethbridge and lived and worked there until she moved to Medicine Hat in 1978. After the birth of her daughter, Judy returned to work with Monarch Broadcasting as their financial controller. Judy was raised with an amazing work ethic and was involved in community endeavors throughout her career. She moved back to Lethbridge to be closer to her aging parents in 1994 and then to Calgary in 1999. She was offered a position in White Rock, BC with a non-profit housing organization in 2000 and, in true “Judy fashion” leapt at the chance for a new adventure. It was during this time that she met her husband Richard, and the two of them started to adventure together. They made sure to live life to the fullest and enjoyed vacations to Hawaii and Disneyland with Judy’s daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. Judy’s grandchildren were the light of her life. She had a special relationship with both – whether it was letting her granddaughter colour her hair pink or donning goalie pads to play hockey with her grandson. “G”, as she was called, was the coolest Grandma. She traveled to cheerleading competitions and hockey tournaments, taught her granddaughter to drive and was always ready for hugs. Judy was also close with her siblings, as well as her nieces and nephews. She was close in age to many of her nieces and nephews and they all have memories of her being the “fun auntie”. Spending time with her family was important to Judy, she had so many wonderful memories of family visits and vacations. We will all miss her zest for life, her adventurous spirit, and the love she showered on all of us.
Judy is survived by her husband Richard, her daughter Rachelle (Jonathan), her granddaughter Katie and grandson Nathan, as well as her sister Lucille and brothers Dennis and Lee. She was predeceased by her parents John and Mary, her brother Clarence, and her nieces Merritt and Kerry. Cremation will take place, and a Celebration of Judy’s life will be held in the summer of 2024. To leave a message of condolence you may visit www.pattisonfuneralhome.com.
