1940 ~ 2023

A new Angel has made her way to heaven, leaving our hearts heavy but our lives full with happy memories that will live on in our hearts forever.

Joy is survived by Colin Aram, “the love of her life” husband of over 60 years; son, Gordon Aram (Anna), daughter, Sharon Aram (grandchildren, Danielle Greenaway, Derek Bailey, Nathan Greenaway) (great-grandchildren, Airianna, Brinley, and Cambrie Greenaway) Joy was predeceased by her mother, Rose and father, William Boond; brother, Dennis and sisters, Marjorie and Betty of England.

From a very young age Joy’s parents and family never called her Yvonne. Joy was always more fitting, as she brought so much joy to all those she crossed paths with along her amazing journey in life. At the age of 83, Joy passed away peacefully with her true love by her side. She lived a happy and rich life full of love and adventure, making memories and lifelong friendships along the way. Joy met the love of her life on February 6th 1960, while attending a ballroom dance and had a most spectacular fairy tale engagement on her 21st birthday. Joy married her true love Colin on March 23 1963 and started a family with the arrival of Sharon in 1966 and Gordon in 1969. They packed up their lives in England to travel across “the pond” and make a new life in Canada in 1975. On the first day in Canada, Joy and Colin were thrilled to see cold beer being sold in the local grocery store, however this beer was not like the beer you would find in a British pub. Beer served with a straw? Canadians do some weird things, to this day neither Joy nor Colin could muster the courage to try Root beer again after so many years had passed from their first disappointing experience with “Canadian beer.” Joy and Colin both thought it best to stick with beer sold in the liquor store and not the fizzy beer sold at the convenience store. Joy always had a passion for dancing and music. Dancing followed Joy and Colin across the ocean to Canada where they found their passion for square dancing. The square dancing community became a large extended family network of lifelong friendships formed from coast to coast and across the ocean. I know Joy will be missed dearly by the many wonderful friends she made along the way and I know she is smiling down saying “Yellow Rocks” (big hugs) to you all. Joy loved to play the organ or spend time listening to her favourite songs, and was very fond of creating and crafting picture videos or personized cards for family and friends. Joy enjoyed spending her days out in the garden tending the flowers while she lived in Ontario, but most of all she loved spending her time with family, friends, and loved ones. After many years living in Kingsville Ontario, another big move was made. In August 2015, Joy and Colin moved across Canada to be closer to family where they have their daughter, Sharon, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

After moving to Medicine Hat, Joy settled in and made another large group of friends. Joy made such a big impact on more lives than I think she ever fully knew. Joy and Colin made so many friends at the Southview Villas, and now even more friends at Meadowlands. Until the very end, Joy had a strong fighting and competitive spirit, and loved to participate in the events held at Meadowlands. The overwhelming amount of trophies and medals show just how busy Joy and Colin kept not only winning at the games and events, but also winning the hearts of everyone they met… both residents and staff. Joy and Colin celebrated 60 extraordinary years of marriage together on March 23 2023, with their family in Medicine Hat.

A private family gathering of remembrance will be held at Cook Southland Funeral Chapel.

My Life On Earth

I’ve laughed and cried also had lots of fun,

But now God has said “My work is done.”

Please do not cry because I have passed

Today’s dark clouds, they will not last.

I’ve lived and loved and tried by best,

Now God has called for me to rest.

Please think of me once in a while,

Not with a tear but a gentle smile.

I’ve had good times, each one a blessing

The memories of which I am caressing.

My life on earth was a joyous refrain

Which will last us through ’till we meet again.
