Les Shilka
1947 ~ 2023
Les Shilka passed away peacefully in his sleep at home in Redcliff, AB, on Friday, November 17, 2023, at the age of 76. Les was born on February 8, 1947, in Elk Point, AB. He was married on June 28, 1969, to Ann (McLeod) Shilka. He was a young mechanic apprentice in Worsley, AB, when he was offered more money to go work on an oil rig. He moved with Ann to the Crowsnest Pass where he worked on oil rigs and coal mines. He started truck driving and moved to Coaldale, AB, then Champion AB. After retiring, Les and Ann would tour Western Canada during the summer and spend winters in Osoyoos, BC. He was a father, grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, and above all things, a husband. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it was on point and meaningful to everyone. Les leaves to cherish his memory: son, Kenton Shilka and daughter, Gloria Shilka; granddaughters, Trinity Shilka and Shay-Ann and Tristen Rangen; brothers, Don Shilka, Louis Shilka, Blair Shilka and Ernie Shilka; sisters, Muriel Loos and Hazel Lubeck along with his numerous and loving relatives and friends. Along with his beloved wife Ann, Les was predeceased by his parents, Barry and Ellen Shilka; mother-in-law, Margaret McLeod and father-in-law, Rod McLeod. A celebration of life will occur in the summer of 2024, at a date to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Les may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion in Redcliff, AB, or your local Legion.
