Bonnie Tricker
1936 ~ 2023
Isabella Mary Bonella ‘Bonnie’ Tricker (nee Mitchell), wife of the late Bert Tricker and beloved mother to Joanne (Jim) Kile, Ken “Tank” (Julie) Tricker and the late Franklin Tricker, passed away on October 27, 2023, in her 87th year. Bonnie was born and raised in Medicine Hat into a ranching family (LA Ranch), owned and operated by her revered father, James Mitchell. After graduating high school and following her father’s sudden passing, Bonnie enrolled in the Education Faculty at the University of Alberta to become a teacher. Bonnie loved to teach and started to develop her craft in a small prairie school in Thelma, AB where she taught 19 students, grades 1 through 9. Along with a friend, Bonnie subsequently secured a teaching job in the NWT. It was there that she met RCMP Constable, Bert Tricker, whom she married in Medicine Hat in 1961. Bert and Bonnie started building their life together at several RCMP detachments throughout the Northern Territories, Northern Alberta and BC. It was in Yellowknife in 1966, where they started their family. Ultimately, they were transferred to RCMP Headquarters in Ottawa in 1974. This assignment to Ottawa was only to be “for a few years”. In Ottawa, Bonnie parked her teaching career to raise her two children. This allowed her time to support their competitive goals in figure skating and hockey by providing a loving home, the finest home-cooked meals and homemade bread – not to mention the hours of cue-cards, sports, and cuddles. Aside from these endeavours, Bonnie began working with The Hudson’s Bay Company in furniture and appliances. She continued to work with The Hudsons Bay for the next 47 years and left the company in 2022 in her 86th year– perhaps a record! Bonnie lived her life with clear convictions through her words and actions. Her children aspire to her example and her expectations of serving the public and Canada – looking to always contribute to the greater good. For Bonnie, there was always another newspaper to read, a radio show to listen to or a discussion to have regarding politics and current events. Along with her children, Joanne and Ken, Bonnie is survived by her grandchildren, Kimberly, Elizabeth, Mabel, Isabella, and Maxwell; brother, Bryce Leslie Mitchell and sister, Janet Margaret Mitchell Jones. Along with her son, Franklin, she was predeceased by her mother, Izzette Foster Mitchell and father, James Mitchell as well as a brother, James William Foster Mitchell. Bonnie is making her final journey home to Medicine Hat where she will be laid to rest with her husband and family. Her children, their spouses and her five grandchildren all hope that Mom and Dad are again riding horses, enjoying a brewski, and talking it out. A Graveside Service in Bonnie’s honour will be held at Hillside Cemetery Saturday, November 25, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Nancy Cocks officiating. Those wishing to attend are invited to join the funeral procession which will depart from Cook Southland Funeral Chapel at 10:50 a.m. (Condolences may be expressed by visiting www.cooksouthland.com) Honoured to serve the family is Cook Southland Funeral Chapel, Crematorium & Reception Facility, Medicine Hat, Alberta.
