RCMP and ASIRT investigating death of suspect in Slave Lake RCMP custody

An incident involving police in Slake Lake where a suspect died while in custody is under investigation.

Slave Lake RCMP report that on Thursday October 12, officers responded to complains of a male acting erratically and damaging property.

Upon arrival, police identified the suspect and attempts to place him under arrest were resisted and an altercation ensued, resulting in a conductive energy weapon being deployed.

Once handcuffs were secured, police noted the suspect had become unresponsive, life saving measures were initiated, the suspect was later declared deceased by responding EMS.

As soon as they became aware of this incident, RCMP contacted the Director of Law enforcement and initiated an internal review process and the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team were dire ted to investigate independently.
